Collection: Big Wave Bay

Medium | Photography

My journey with the Holga camera began not because of its film usage or its distinctive light leaks, which I wasn't particularly fond of. Nor was it due to the trendy allure of Holgas, Lomos, and Dianas—those low-tech, plastic wonders that seemed to be in vogue. It was something more practical. The Holga presented itself as the most budget-friendly option to shoot in a square format for my client.

In this collection, I invite you to delve into a day spent at Big Wave Bay, captured through the lens of my cherished Holga, alongside a favorite model, Derek. The resulting photographs exude an undeniable aura of nostalgia, their colors saturated, and the images possessing a delightful ambiguity—characteristics attributed to the camera's plastic lens. Despite the lack of high-quality optics, I willingly surrender to the enchanting and mystical nature of each image.

It's important to note that the exact year of these captures remains uncertain, lost to the passage of time without any recorded details on the negatives. An approximation places them around the years 2007 or 2008, serving as a testament to the timeless charm and enduring allure of the Holga camera
